Pegrum Ltd is a family run business

Gordon Pegrum established the original family run business in 1974. Although Gordon for many years was in the building trade and engineering. Later the business took on another direction, when a neighbour requested help with her range cooker. With more demand for Gordon’s skills, the range cooker work took over, the JCB was put out to grass and the range cooker business was born. After completing gas training, the oil and solid fuel followed soon after.

The range cooker business grew at such fast pace that Gordon enlisted the help of his eldest son, Chris. Chris Pegrum had trained in surveying with Matthew Hall/Amec Construction gaining many qualifications in electrical and plumbing. Since then Chris has taken further courses in oil, gas, solar, un-vented hot water, water regulations and energy efficiency. The later being increasingly important as fuel costs rise and global warming becomes a hot topic.

A few years later and the business was joined by Michael Pegrum, Gordon’s youngest son. Michael completed a technical enginneering course and now has the a major role in cooker refurbishment and all installations. Michael has also taken other courses required by the business in oil, solid fuel, un-vented hot water, solar and energy efficiency.

To keep it in the family the accounts are taken on by Diana, Gordon’s wife and his daughter, Lee Pegrum put together this website. The business is fortunate in having another generation of range cooker and heating trainees including Elliot Pegrum. Even though Elliot is still a school, learning engineering, he often accompanies his father to look and learn and already has a good knowledge of range cookers and heating.

The business has grown so much that it now has a Unit at Gaza Trading estate for offices, storage and a showroom. More members of staff have been recruited, with Helen, looking after the office and Tom trained as a range cooker and heating engineer. Shane joined over a year ago a will soon be qualified in gas and plumbing. We also have a team of local contractors to help us out with additional work.

Pegrum Ltd have always recognised the importance of training and have been ahead of their field in this respect. Training is compulsory, in most instances as a matter of safety.

It is not our intention to get much larger as we feel the personal touch with quality over quantity is our priority. For this reason over the last few years we have reduced our service area considerably.

Our objective is to enable our customers to have an installation with minimal problems, provide comfortable heating, hot water, good cooking facilities with equipment that is easy to use and maintain. Pegrum Ltd appreciates this comes with a little extra cost, but longevity, reliability and efficiency always does. From our experience if a job is done correctly the first time it won’t need to be done again, which over time will save money.
